Disposable Face Masks Causing More Harm than Good?

Disposable Masks are causing an environmental crisis!

Before COVID, we were all talking about PLASTIC and the impact it has on the environment.

Major supermarkets and retailers stopped giving us free shopping bags and instead, for a fee, we started using reusable bags made from cotton, jute, bamboo and other recyclable materials.

Local councils jumped in and whole suburbs banned unnecessary plastics – next came reusable straws made from silicone or metal that we could carry around with us.  Plastic and styrofoam take away cups were replaced with paper cups and we were encouraged to supply our own reusable cups that could be refilled at our favourite cafe.

According to article by NBC News in April this year, of greater concern than plastic bags is now the use of disposable face masks which are often made from polypropylene plastic.  Face masks are a necessity to help and prevent the spread of COVID however disposable face masks are creating their own environmental hazard as they cannot be readily biodegraded.  Furthermore, as the plastic breaks down and fragments into smaller plastic particles, micro or nano-plastics, it can take up to 450 years to decompose.

Compare that to plastic which is estimated to take 20 years and Styrofoam 50 years to decompose.

When choosing a face mask – think environmentally and choose a face mask that is reusable.

A cloth face mask made from materials such as cotton, polyester etc, which have an inner pocket to insert a filter, provide the protection required without being wasteful nor harmful to the environment.

All our reusable face masks can be customised with your brand or message, providing free advertising every time it’s worn.
