A Pen is just not a pen!

Nowadays the ole’ pen is not just a pen!

With technology quickly overtaking the role of hand written communication, the pen’s versatility has had to evolve.

Over time it has developed enhancements to be just not a writing instrument – it’s become a tool with the introduction of a stylus, it can carry data around with you on an included USB, through a banner pen it can communicate a detailed message. There are torch pens, tri-colour pens, pen & pencil pens, “leveller” pens, some have a small torch on the end for when you really want to write in the dead of night and there is a pen that has small flag notes included, for when you really want to write yourself a reminder and can’t find that bit of paper!

New to the market is the Shining Illuminated Stylus Pen which will light up your logo for dramatic impression. With twist tip action this pen will shine through your hands with the push of the stylus for illumination.

Don’t Spin your Brand the Wrong Way

The world has gone crazy over these trendy new gadgets and they could easily be called the hottest item currently on the market.  But are suppliers in such a rush to stock and sell these spinners that they are overlooking important Safety & Compliance details?  Unfortunately it appears the answer is yes.  We have been watching the market, checking retail stores and listening to the news since the day these spinners hit the peak of their popularity.  What we have seen has been shocking as many suppliers, wholesale and retail, have marketed these spinners to all ages and have not made any mention (of any kind) about safety.

Suitable for All Ages? Nothing could be further from the truth, and there are clear standards around the world (Australia & New Zealand included) for products like these.

While there are many different models and styles available, we have found that more than 75% of the models on the market contain small parts that present a possible choking hazard.  AS/NZS ISO 8124.1:2016 is a standard that covers choking hazards in toys and AZ/NZS ISO 8124.3:2012 / AS 8124.7:2013 addresses the migration of certain elements like lead and other heavy metals that can be poisonous. Both of these standards need to be adhered to when launching a product that has play value and appeals to children.  Choosing to work with a supplier that has not properly addressed these standards could potentially put you AND your client into a PR nightmare.

Fidget-Spinner-with-LED

The world is watching and there has already been a recall on an LED model here in Australia which you can read about by clicking here.

As well as a little girl that choked on one of the components in the US as covered by CNN and can be found by clicking here.

More recently another recall has been issued, ALSO in Australia, in regards to a model with sharp edges which you can read up on by clicking here.

As a distributor and on-seller you have a choice on where you purchase the merchandise you sell. Exercise your right to choose and challenge your supply chain!  Protect your company and your client’s business by choosing to work with suppliers who are not only adhering to the necessary standards but also have the documentation to back it up!

What makes our spinners different?  Instead of focusing on price, our Product Development and International Compliance teams have been hard at work making sure our spinners ticked all the Safety & Compliance requirements. We have:

– Age Graded our Fiddle Spinners (Ages 5 and up)

– Provided a Choking Hazard Warning AND the Age Grade on the Box

– Tested the Fiddle Spinners to EN71 Standards (which are more rigorous than current AUS/NZ standards) and cross checked the standards to ensure the results complied to AUS/NZ Standards.

We are happy to discuss any of this information if you or your clients have questions or concerns.  Additionally we are happy to supply testing documentation backing up everything we have stated above.

Power Banks – Which One?

Don’t get caught out with the wrong power bank! There are a few things you need to consider, based on what you want to charge, how many times and how quickly you want it done!

1.  Capacity

Know the battery capacity of your device – see the table below as a guide. If your battery is 1500mAh and is 0% now, a power bank with 2200mAh can charge your phone 1 time. If your battery is 3000mAh and is 0%,  a power bank with 2200mAh will not be able to re-charge to full because the phone battery capacity is higher than the power bank, so it may only charge 75%.

It’s important to note that a power bank will not deliver its full advertised capacity to your device – some of this energy is lost through the heat generated and voltage conversion.

If you require  a power bank that is able to charge your phone several times, you need a power bank with higher capacity.

iPhone 5S 1560 mAh Samsun Galaxy S5 2800 mAh
iPhone 6 1810 mAh Samsun Galaxy Tab S (10″) 7900 mAh
iPad Air 2 7340 mAh HTC One (M8) 2600 mAh
iPad 4 11,560 mAh Nokia Lumia 920 2000 mAh
Blackberry Z10 1800 mAh

2. Output Specification

This refers to how quickly a power bank will charge your device. 1A – 1.5A output is generally for smartphones, 1.5A – 2.0A output is generally for tablets. You can use either output to charge any USB device – it will draw only the power it needs. However, you might find some tablets, usually iPads, will refuse to charge from lower specified outputs.

3. Number of Outputs

1 output  to charge 1 device, 2 outputs to charge 2 devices simultaneously. Obviously this will draw more power!

4. Short Circuit & Overcharge

Choose a power that can automatically cut off the electricity when charging the battery full, because overcharge will certainly shorten the life of the bank. Look for one that features a power cut when a short circuit occurs.

5. Portability

Different sizes suit different needs. Some will fit in your pocket, others you need a bag for! If you’re going mobile pick one that suits lifestyle.

The Cleaner Water Bottle

promotional drink bottle

Promotional water bottles are a great all rounder promotional item used as for sports teams, corporate events, workplace health practices etc. They are so effective as they are low cost per unit (usually a few dollars), have a large print are for plenty of messaging and send a good health message – drink water.

One of the concerns often raised is whether we are cleaning them properly in-between uses. This latest innovation solves this problem, a re-usable water bottle that screws apart at the widest area to allow easy access for maximum cleaning.
